The Orthoceras is an extinct cephalapod that boogied around our oceans approximately 400 million years ago. These fossils were harvested from the Atlas mountains in Morocco.
This shawl pin is made of an orthoceras fossil lashed onto a black, lacquered shawl stick by hand with leather thong. The shawl pin is 5" long, the fossils range from 1.5-2.5". They are joined the shawl stick at one end so that they slip over your knitting, pinning it between the fossil and the shawl stick, keeping everything in place. These shawl pins are handmade, one of a kind pieces. The fossils are natural, so there will be some variance from fossil to fossil.
