Nuuka, this shawl pin is named after the the Umiaq belonging to the Center for Wooden Boats, here in Seattle. An Umiaq is a traditional workboat build and used by natives in the arctic, commonly the Inupiaq and Yup'ik cultures. They can be paddled or sailed and are built
by lashing strips of wood together. They do not use screws or nails.
