Fiber Arts as Fine Art
Project Joy

What is Project Joy?
“Joy can be a revolutionary act in the face of despair”
Project Joy is a community art piece organized and woven by Kasteyl Lukes. It seeks to collect hopes, dreams, and joy from marginalzed peoples as an act of resistance.

"America First"
Our beautiful country was built on genocide and slave labor. Marginalized people keep the engine running. We are the heart of America and these are our voices.
The Warp
Foundational warp for this piece is wool grown in all 50 states and blended by hand. Want to contribute? Click Here.

What brings you joy?
The Weft
Joy is being collected from all 50 states and the five US territories. Every contributor is asked to contemplate what would bring them joy that they are currently unable to do while we survive the fascist, late stage capitalist plutocracy that currently governs us.
These threads of joy, these hopes, these dreams, are gathered and hand written on strips of canvas that are then woven into the piece. Participants have the option of adding their names and or cities to the piece.
